BCCI issues invitation to tender for its media rights for 5 years

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially issued the invitation to tender for its media rights for five years – from 1 April 2018 till 31 March 2023. Cricket’s richest body will carry out an online auction process to award the rights.

Star India is the current office-bearer of BCCI’s media rights. They had paid Rs. 3851 crore to secure the rights.

Sony Pictures Networks India and Star India are considered to be the main contenders for the media rights. The likes of Facebook, Reliance Jio, Times Internet and Amazon Prime Video are expected to show their interest for the digital rights.

The BCCI has three media rights package which include global TV rights in addition to the world digital rights package, Indian sub-continent digital rights package and global consolidated rights package.

The tender may be submitted for one or more of the packages and it can be purchased from 20 February. There will also be a workshop on the same to educate parties on the online auction process. The workshop is scheduled to take place on March 7.

The last date to collect the tender document, which is available at the BCCI office in the Wankhede Stadium, is March 5 at 5 PM. The interested parties can submit their documents till March 27 at 10 AM and the online auction starts at 2 PM.

The BCCI also made it clear that it reserves the right to cancel or amend the entire bidding process at any stage and to reject any and all bids without providing any reason. Only purchasing the ITT doesn’t grant the purchaser to bid. The purchaser ought to buy the ITT in the name of the company or group inclined to bid.
