Manjot Kalra shares his U19 World Cup experience

ICC U19 World Cup 2018 –final hero –Manjot Kalra, who grabbed headlines for his explosive batting, shared the experience about the high-pressure World Cup final, as well as, the experience of working with legendary Indian batsman and Coach Rahul Dravid.

In an exclusive interview with India TV, Kalra said, “There was a lot of pressure in the World Cup final and it was quite a big game. There was nervousness but we were confident at the same time and we played according to our ability and we could chase the target that was set by Australia.”

The Prithvi Shaw-led Indian team had to chase down the target 216 set by Australia to clinch the World Cup 2018 title. The Indian middle order wasn't tested too much by the Australian bowlers.  Kalra handled the situation very well despite having a lot pressure in the final, playing match-winning knock of 101* to help India to clinch the crown for a record fourth time.

The 19-year-old further revealed, “When we were playing in the finals, the middle and lower order were not tested too much by Australia and we knew that if we played according to our capability we could go forward. Our first priority was to build a partnership, then we saw from there on what to do.”

Winning the World Cup also made Rahul Dravid to realize his long-standing dream to lift the trophy. Commenting on Dravid, Kalra said, “It was a great experience learning from a legend, we have been working for so long with Rahul Dravid and we learned many things in the tournament from him.”

The Man of the Match of the 2018 World Cup final –Kalra, who is all set to represent his trade for Delhi Daredevils (DD) in the upcoming 11th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018, is excited to face the international bowlers in the tournament and looking forward to share the DD dressing room with some great of the game.

Kalra signed off by saying, “I would like to play in the Vijay Hazare trophy and also looking forward towards the Indian Premier League as well and grab a chance in the tournament. I'm excited and will get to learn a lot from the experienced players. We were facing the U-19 bowlers but now we get a chance to face the international bowlers as well.”
