Zimbabwe all-rounder Sikandar Raza has been fined for showing dissent during the third One-Day International (ODI) of the ongoing five-match series against Afghanistan on 13 February in Sharjah.

The 31-year-old has been fined 15 percent of his match fees for breaching the International Cricket Council (ICC) Code of Conduct, as well as, one demerit point for his Tuesday’s incident.

The right-hander was found to have violated Article 2.1.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match”.

The incident happened during the 23rd over of Zimbabwean innings in Sharjah Cricket Stadium when Raza, after being adjudged leg before, raised question over the umpire’s decision by raising his arms before leaving the crease after a short time.

With Raza admitting the offence and accepting the sanction proposed by Richie Richardson of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees after the match, there was no need for a formal hearing.

In the five-match ODI series, Afghanistan already took a 2-1 lead against Zimbabwe with the fourth ODI to be played on 16 February and final of the series will be held on 19 February at the same venue - Sharjah.

Zimbabwe already lost the 2-match T20 International at the hands of Afghanistan, and now they will have to win Friday’s ODI to keep their hopes alive in the series.

Zimbabwe will also be the venue which will host the ICC 2019 qualifiers. Nepal and UAE join Windies, Afghanistan, Ireland, Zimbabwe, Hong Kong, Netherlands, Scotland and Papua New Guinea to complete the line-up. Only two sides will qualify from this tournament to join the top eight teams for the 2019 World Cup in England.
