Player of the ICC U19 World Cup 2018 –Shubman Gill,  who played a key role with the bat in the recently concluded victorious U19 campaign for India, revealed the reason behind his surprising ecstatic celebration after reaching a century in the semi-final against Pakistan.

Usually, the young batting sensation is quiet with his celebrations, but Gill was seen quite vocal while celebrating his World Cup ton against the arch-rivals Pakistan and it was natural.

The 18-year-old Punjab batsman revealed the reason behind his celebration was being sledged a little too much by the Pakistan fielders during the semi-final. Gill went to further reveal that the opposition fielders started sledging too much after the fall of few Indian wickets, and due to which he failed to control his emotions and started celebrating his ton against the arch-rivals.

According to TNN, Shubman Gill said  “At the start, they were sledging a little which was all right. I expect opponents to sledge a little so I wasn't too bothered by it. But after we lost a few wickets, they started sledging too much which was frustrating for me. That's why I celebrated like that.”

On being asked about their celebration of World Cup triumph, Gill said, “We danced to all kinds of music. Punjabi, English and Hindi songs. We even forced Rahul (Dravid) sir to dance.”

Gill also revealed that their last team meeting in Auckland was quite an emotional one. He signed off by saying, “We've been together for more than 15 months so naturally, we've got to know each other pretty well. The day after we won, it suddenly dawned on us that we might not play with each other again. So, our last team meeting was really emotional. Even the support staff was emotional.”

India went on to win their fourth World Cup title when they chased 217 needed for victory with Manjot Kalra scoring an unbeaten ton to guide India to their fourth U19 title.
