Baroda has called up experienced cricketer Yusuf Pathan ahead of the Vijay Hazare trophy. His selection has come after he was given an NOC by the BCCI to play in the Dhaka Premier League. According to Indian Express, the all-rounder had decided to play in DPL as he did not make it to the Baroda squad earlier, for the domestic one-day tournament.

Interestingly, Pathan was left of the Baroda squad for the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Given that he is out of match practice, Pathan wanted to get some match practice before getting started with the IPL.

“The selectors included his (Yusuf) name today in the Baroda squad for Vijay Hazare Trophy. But his inclusion was subject to him clearing his fitness test,” BCA joint secretary Snehal Parikh said.

Justifying the decision to pick Pathan despite not being in the probables list, Parikh said, “It’s a selection committee decision and I’m not going to reveal what happened inside the meeting.”

Earlier, in the recently concluded IPL 2018 auctions, Yusuf Pathan was released by the Kolkata Knight Riders and was swapped in by the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Pathan, an IPL veteran expected KKR to use the Right to Match (RTM) card for him which did not happen.

Pathan who has played with the Rajasthan Royals before his stint with KKR will be playing for his third IPL team who will be Sunrisers Hyderabad.

In another major cricketing incident related to Pathan, he had to miss a large part of the Ranji season due to a dope ban imposed on him by BCCI. The ban started on August 15, 2017 and ended on January 14, 2018.
