India Under-19 side led by Prithvi Shaw pulled off an emphatic 8-wicket victory over Australia in the final of ICC U19 Cricket World Cup to become the only team in history to lift the coveted title for a record fourth time.
The remarkable bowling performance by Boys in Blue saw them limiting Australia to a below par total of 216. In reply, Prithvi Shaw’s troops chased down the total with 8 wickets in hand and 67 balls to spare.
India U-19 side remained unbeaten throughout the Youth World Cup. They have brutally thrashed their opponents in all aspects of the game. Taking into account India’s dominance throughout the showpiece event, cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar has credited the BCCI for providing the boys with right kind of infrastructure while nurturing them.
"Credit to BCCI for giving them the infrastructure. In the last 15 years, playing has changed, standard of fielding has changed. It's all because of better infrastructure and ground maintenance. It reflects on the field," Tendulkar quoted as saying by PTI.
"The way they have prepared themselves, physically, mentally, their planning and the execution was on top. That's why it was evident that the Indian team stood out from the rest of the competitors," the batting maestro further added.
Praising former teammate Rahul Dravid for successfully coaching the side to victory, Sachin also hailed the support staff of the coach.
"Without any doubt, it's a terrific contribution. It's working for him (Dravid) along with the support staff, he (Dravid) himself said that. It's been a joy to work with that.
"Rahul, (coach) Paras (Mhambrey) and (fielding coach) Abhay (Sharma) have also been a part of it. A big achievement for all of them," he said.
India had all their bases covered in the Youth World Cup with the bowlers picking up 60 wickets in 6 matches while batsmen piling up runs consistently. The No. 3 batsman Shubman Gill was adjudged ‘Man of the Tournament’ for his 372 runs.
"It's been a tremendous achievement that requires a great team work to realise big dreams. We have been able to do that," concluded Tendulkar.
