The 2017-18 Indian domestic season has been fruitful for Vidarbha, as they have earlier clinched their maiden Ranji Trophy title, and now their maiden Cooch Behar Trophy U19 on Wednesday.

On January 31, 2018, in Nagpur, Madhya Pradesh won the toss and opted to bat but they failed to make a great start and bundled out for 289. In reply, Captain and opener Atharva Taide led from the front as he struck 320 (483b, 34×4, 1×6) to power Vidarbha to a massive 614/10, taking a mammoth 325-run lead in the first innings. In addition, the bowlers made things easy for Vidarbha, as they reduced the Madya Pradesh to 176/7 in their second innings, and thanked skipper’s triple ton, which made sure for them to do not bat again, thus, Vidarbha clinch their maiden title.

With the match-winning knock, Atharva Taide became the second batsmen after Yuvraj Singh, who notched-up 358 against Bihar in 1999, to score a triple ton in the Cooch Behar Trophy U19 final.

According to the Indian Express, Taide said, “There was a lot of pressure because I had never been this close to a triple ton, and I wanted to get it over with.”

Despite his match-winning and record making knock, the youngster said he is not played with full potential in Nagpur.

Taide added, "I’m a typical aggressive ODI batsman, but I couldn’t move too well. I had to be patient and kept icing it whenever I got the chance. And I had to hit along the ground, but I was still getting runs. So I guess I showed that I can be versatile too.”

Taide also became the first Vidarbha player to score a triple century across all age groups, while Sameer Gujar's 221 against MP in Ranji Trophy in 1991-92 is the highest score for Vidarbha in the First-Class cricket.
