Salman Butt and Mohd Asif amongst the players who played in the dubious UAE T20 event

The Ajman All Stars T20 League came under scrutiny after questionable dismissals went viral.

Salman Butt clarified things about his participation in the T20 league

International Cricket Councils Anti-Corruption unit confirmed it was investigating the Ajman All Stars T20 League held recently. Now it has come to light that former Pakistan captain and tainted player Salman Butt and bowler Mohd Asif were part of the T20 event in UAE.

Both Butt and Asif served 5 year bans and jail sentence each for spot fixing between 2010 and 2016, were amongst the Pakistani players who took part in the private tournament that caught ICC’s eye after videos of some dubious dismissals and player behavior went viral on social media.

Former Pakistan players Hasan Raza, Muhammad Khalil, along with Asif and Butt took part in the private league that was discredited by the Emirates cricket board and Ajman Cricket Council. "I went there as I was not picked for the national regions one-day cup by Lahore and I was doing nothing. But when I reached there I realised it was just an amateur level event which had no match referee, ICC anti-corruption representative or even scorers," Butt told PTI.

"Since the spot-fixing scandal I try to stay away as far as possible from any related controversies. I am happy the ICC is investigating the event because they were lot of flaws in it. But I played just two games and than went away to Dubai,” he explained.

Butt scored a first ball duck in the first match and 70 odd runs in the second match. Butt claims that he told the organizers that he would need NOC’s from PCB and his department, WAPDA and said, “But they told me it was a private tournament and not sanctioned so no NOC was required to play. When I went there I realised it was just a badly managed street level event and it made no sense to me."

Butt however cleared that he didn’t feature in the video footage that went viral and brought the event under the scanner of ICC anti-corruption unit.
