Delhi eyeing to groom the youngsters to bring back the magic of the 80s and 90s

KP Bhaskar hopes the magic of the 1980s and early 1990s will be rekindled by the current side.

Delhi Cricket Team coach –KP Bhaskar, on Tuesday, expressed his hopes that the magic of the 1980s and early 1990s will be rekindled by the current hard-working bunch very soon in the coming years.

Bhaskar, who has played a precious role in this context to experience again Delhi cricket’s splendid years, wants to brush up the youngsters who can serve the team long.

According to a report in Sport Star, Bhaskar said, “My focus was to groom players who can serve the team long. Delhi has some amazing talent and my job was made easier by boys who performed consistently. It is always tough to tell a player that he is being dropped but I always tried to take them into confidence. It worked.”

He also thanked Delhi’s selection panel for showing trust on his decisions, as the Coach gave a break to many youngsters this season, including wicketkeeper-batsman Anuj Rawat, pacer Kulwant Khejroliya, stroke-player Himmat Singh, all-rounder Lalit Yadav and Kunal Chandela. Bhaskar also lauded the players, who were made the most the given opportunities.

Delhi coach further added on the same, “I must credit the selectors for keeping faith in my judgment. It was teamwork no doubt but hats off to the players who grabbed the initiative. With the strengthening of the bench, Delhi is on the road to recover its glory. I hope the magic of the 1980s and early 1990s will be rekindled by this hard-working bunch.”

Commenting on Ishant Sharma, who was named Captain for Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018, Bhaskar said, “Making Ishant (Sharma) the captain with the belief that Delhi can do well only by taking 20 wickets. The idea was to look at things from a bowler’s perspective and this paid off. Ishant was brilliant in captaincy and his striking spells too paved the way for Delhi’s qualification.”

Delhi will play its Vijay Hazare opener against Uttar Pradesh in Bilaspur on February 5.
