Former India batsman Sachin Tendulkar recently met with the Indian Women’s Cricket team, before they departed to South Africa for a tough series.

In that team is a 17-year-old girl from Mumbai, who has caught the imagination of every cricket fan. Jemimah Rodrigues blasted a double century in the domestic matches and with getting called up to the Indian team; she couldn’t be much happier; until she met her hero, Sachin Tendulkar.

"Getting photographed with him individually made it such a memorable day," she tells India Today.

"Meeting Sachin sir was like a blessing for me. It was like someone pinched me when he first came. It was a moment of awe for us. The way he spoke, he was humble and made us look for positives ahead of South Africa tour," she adds.

India captain Mithali has called Jemimah, 'the future of Indian women's cricket'. "Its my first tour with India. I am hoping to get my debut cap soon and perform the same way as domestic when I get a chance," she speaks of her first tour.

Jemimah has played hockey for Maharashtra team

Jemimah also played hockey for the Maharashtra team before playing cricket for Mumbai and it was a difficult choice for her to choose which one she should pursue.

"It was difficult. I cried as well because I liked hockey also. But there came a time when I had to choose and me and my dad decided to go for cricket. But it's not that I have left hockey. Whenever I get a chance I will play," she insists.

Jemimah might have hockey as her insurance if cricket doesn’t work; but now that she will travel to South Africa on her debut tour and she wants to make cricket work.
