U 19 World Cup 2018: Lloyd Pope compared to Shane Warne post world record

Australian Cricket Team, on Monday, registered an outstanding 31-run triumph against England with the help of leg-spinner Lloyd Pope's record-breaking eight-wicket spell in a thrilling encounter in the ongoing U19 Cricket World Cup 2018 in New Zealand.  

While batting first, the Kangaroos were all out for just  127, but Pope's sizzling bowling brought Australia back into the game and helped them to reach the semi-final of the mega ICC event.

The 18-year-old Pope took eight for 35, which is the best bowling figure ever at U19 World Cup, and he is being compared to Shane Warne after this fantastic performance in the tournament.

Lloyd Pope made headlines across the world, especially in the Australian media, with his match-winning performance with the ball in Queenstown. There are many cricket pundits, who compared him to the likes of Shane Warne. 

According to a report in AFP, “The new Shane Warne has arrived” Pope's home-town paper the Adelaide Advertiser proclaimed on its website.

Meanwhile, Cricket Australia's website compared his spell to Warne's in the 1999 World Cup, when he took four for 29 against South Africa.

Even, the sport’s governing body –International Cricket Council (ICC), went on to compare Pope with Warne, saying, “This could justifiably be called a Warne-esque spell. This has a claim to being Australia's most explosive scene-bursting moment since Shane lobbed one up to Mike Gatting in 1993.”

While legendary spinner Warner also went on the social media to hail his terrific bowling and congratulate Pope.

He wrote on his Twitter handle, “This is terrific & brings a huge smile to my face. I had the pleasure of meeting this impressive young man in Adelaide a while ago. Was nice to have a bowl with him too -- Lloyd give it a rip -- well done & congrats! Spin to win my friend.”
