Team India discard is eyeing a move to Jammu & Kashmir Irfan Pathan is likely to mentor Jammu & Kashmir in the next season. The pacer was earlier issued a No Objection certificate from the Baroda Cricket Association. However, the final formalities of Pathan's transfer is yet to be completed.

Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association’s (JKCA) new CEO, Ashiq Hussain Bukhari is currently travelling and one understands that the formalities of Pathan joining J&K will be completed once he returns.

Last week, Bukhari had met former India captain Kapil Dev and Pathan to take their advice on how to rebuild the cricketing structure in the valley; that’s when Pathan was offered the role.

A source, who is aware of the development, said, “The CEO did meet the two (Kapil and Irfan) to discuss the road ahead. A final decision would be taken on Wednesday’s meeting.”

Pathan joining the Jammu state team would mean that this is the first time JKCA would be hiring a professional player from another state.

After facing the axe from Baroda Pathan has found it tough to make an impact in either domestic or international cricket. Association with the J&K team would give Irfan Pathan yet another opportunity to revive his career.

With the IPL auctions coming up and Pathan joining J&K it will now be interesting to see if the different franchises go for Irfan Pathan in the auctions, especially with the experience that he has.
