U19 World Cup 2018: Day 8 Roundup

The ICC U19 World Cup moved into the eighth day with two interesting matches played. While Afghanistan won a close match against Afghanistan,  West Indies toppled Kenya on the other. 

Afghanistan U19 vs Ireland U19

Ireland edged out Afghanistan in a close match which went right down the wire. Batting first Ireland scored 225 for 8. In the chase, Afghanistan fell four short of the total after the match ended as a last over thriller. They ended at 221 handing Ireland an important win to stay in the contest.

Ireland 225 for 8 (Tector 36, Ahmad 3-32, Wafadar 3-50) beat Afghanistan 221 (Bahir 34, Stanikzai 33, Tector 3-37) by four runs

Windies U19 vs Kenya U19

It was yet again a bad game for Kenya as they were bowled out for just 96 by Windies chasing 319 for victory. This match was another high scoring and a one-sided contest with Windies winning the game by 222 runs.

West Indies 318 for 7 (Athanaze 116*, Melius 60, Desai 3-54) beat Kenya 96 (Gandhi 37, Yadram 5-18, Royal 4-25) by 222 runs

England U19 vs Canada U19

England had another memorable game as they romped through Canada to win the game hands down. Batting first England piled up 383 and then bundled out Canada for 101 to win the match by 282 runs. They now have marched through to the quarterfinals of the championship and will play arch-rivals Australia.

England 383 for 7 (Banks 120, Jacks 102, Jamkhandi 3-68, Pretorius 3-69) beat Canada 101 (Pranav 24, Sisodiya 3-23, Finch 2-10, Hollman 2-21, Walker 2-25) by 282 runs

New Zealand U19 vs South Africa U19

In the final game of the day, New Zealand won an important match against  South Africa. Batting first the U19 Kiwi team scored a well competitive 279 for 8. A cumulative effort from the top order batsman helped New Zealand to get to the target. 

South Africa then could only score 208 runs with Protean top order batter Hermann Rolfes scoring 108 which was the only chief contribution from the lineup. 

New Zealand won the match by a margin of 71 runs to currently top group A.
