Afghanistan had announced that they will play their first ever Test match against India, sometime back. The BCCI is likely to choose Bengaluru as the venue for the historic Test. An official announcement is likely to be made at a press conference in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The Test will be played in June when the weather is expected to be conducive for all 5 days play, without the interruption of rain. The match will be played before India’s short tour of Ireland.

Afghanistan was scheduled to play Australia, but the scheduling coudln't be worked out. Their relationship with India led Afghanistan to express the wish to play its first Test against the men in blue.

"Afghans were scheduled to play their first Test in 2019 versus Australia but considering the historic relationship between India and Afghanistan, we decided to host their first Test," BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary was quoted by Press Trust India.

Afghanistan and Ireland were accorded full-membership status at the ICC AGM in London last June. Ireland will play their first Test match against Pakistan in May at the Malahide Cricket Club Ground, Dublin, Ireland.
