Glenn Maxwell's axe from the ODI squad has not gone well in the Australian media after reports of differences between him and Steve Smith surfaced earlier. Reportedly Smith reasoned Maxwell's drop from the ODI squad after questioning Maxwell's training sessions last week.

After scoring 60 in a losing cause for Melbourne Stars Maxwell addressed Smith's comments publicly for the first time, saying that he and Smith were friends and that he would take the skipper's feedback on board.

Maxwell's knock in the defeat pushed his case for an ODI selection reprieve, with the Australian selectors poised to name their replacement for Chris Lynn, who will miss the series against England - which begins in Melbourne on Sunday - through injury.

"I'll address that with Steven personally. I'll have a chat with him. I know what it's like to say things in the media, for things to happen, I'm sure it was only good intentions behind it" Maxwell said of Smith's comments.

"He's only trying to get the best out of me as the Australian skipper. There's not much you can say to the guy who's second best to "The Don". You've got to listen to him. I'll be doing my best to get on his right side and do everything I can to play for Australia because that's where I want to be playing," concluded Maxwell.
