Our goal is to win the U-19 World Cup, says Prithvi Shaw

Indian U-19 captain Prithvi Shaw on Sunday (January 7) made his intention quite clear by saying the team is fully motivated to leave an impression in the U-19 World Cup and will play the showpiece event with a sole motive to clinch the trophy.

Shaw, who has done wonders in the recently concluded Indian domestic season, also revealed that his team has prepared well under the guidance of legendary Rahul Dravid.

The 12th edition of ICC U-19 World Cup officially got underway at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch yesterday. Warm-up matches will be played from Monday while the tournament will properly start from January 13, with 4 matches spread across different venues.

"We've been here a week now, played a couple of games. Everything has gone well, the preparation of the team has been good. Our goal is obviously to win the World Cup but at the same time we are looking forward to our first game (against Australia on January 13), and let's see how the process goes," Shaw as quoted by PTI as saying.

In the opening ceremony, all the representatives of 16 participating sides were present. Christchurch Councillor Aaron Keown in addition to as New Zealand Cricket President Debbie Hockley greeted the visiting teams.

India U-19 team are slotted in Group B along with Zimbabwe, Australia and Papua New Guinea U19. The final will take place at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui on February 3.
