Kamran Akmal and Salman Butt ask national selectors to have a consistent selection policy; cite BCCI selectors as example to follow

Kamran Akmal called for selectors to follow their Indian counterparts

Former Pakistan captain and disgraced cricketer Salman Butt and former keeper Kamran Akmal have asked the Pakistani team selectors to be as consistent as their Indian counterparts when it comes to national team selection.

"India shows more consistency in allowing their players to play top-level cricket," Butt noted.

"Rohit Sharmas batting average was around 25 and 30 at one stage but the Indian selectors gave him consistent chances and today he has become a world class performer”, Butt said.

Kamran Akmal, who recently scored a double century in a domestic 50 over game, said that the pitches in Pakistan’s domestic tournament are not suited to batting. This is the reason behind the drop in quality of Pakistani batting over the years.

"You need to have pitches in domestic cricket where batsmen can build their innings and stay for long. This is only way to give them confidence and prepare them for international cricket," Kamran said.

Kamran gave the example of the recently concluded Quaid-e-Azam trophy in which there were 20 instances of teams being bowled out for less than 100 runs, thanks to the poor quality of pitches.

Butt and Kamran Akmal both pointed out that the performance in the domestic tournaments should be the sole consideration for national selection and if players with consistently good record in domestic cricket are not rewarded with national selection, the quality of Pakistani batting will continue to drop.

Both called for selectors to give a long rope to players in international cricket, before dropping them.
