Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) sacked Thisara Perera as a white-ball captain following a discussion held on 3 January 2018.

The SLC also said that it would announce its limited over captain next Tuesday after consulting new head coach Chandika Hathurusingha.

In late November 2017, Upul Tharanga was replaced by Perera after a series of losses.  Thisara Perera too failed to impress the board with his leading proficiency.

Now, SLC has decided to appoint a new captain in search of some success ahead of their Bangladesh tour, where the Islanders will play 3 ODIs, 2 Tests and 2 T20Is.

As per SLC official website, President Thilanga Sumathipala stated, “During the discussion, the chairman of selectors informed me that they are considering appointing either Angelo Mathews or Dinesh Chandimal to fill the role.”

At the moment, the Sri Lankans are under pressure after a series of defeats, and the most recently to India, where the Islanders were whitewashed in the T20I series and just managed to win only ODI of the three-match series. Now, SL is scheduled to tour Bangladesh for a full series this month.
