Mohammad Azharuddin –former Indian skipper, on Thursday, joined the chorus of debate on the best batsman between Virat Kohli and Steve Smith.

Although their technique is entirely different, both batsman always makes news whenever they are on the crease and ruled every opposition with their outstanding efforts with the willow.

For some time, many cricket pundits have been debated over one of them being the best cricketer of the modern era, and now Azharuddin has also expressed her views over the debate, saying ‘both are best at the moment’.

Virat Kohli –led Team India is currently in South Africa for a full series where they haven’t won a single series in any format of the game in the rainbow nation, and a lot of expectations are on this team that they can bring glory for the country by winning here.

And Azharuddin feels that Kohli will be the key batsman on the grueling tour of South Africa. Although, former skipper admitted that Smith has a great record with the bat at the moment in Test cricket, but says Kohli has been doing brilliantly in all three formats of the game.

Speaking to International Business Times, Azharuddin said, “I think Steve Smith’s record is also good. But if you look at all three formats, Virat has really done well. I think both are best at the moment.”

He concluded by saying, “He (Virat Kohli) is the key batsman but everybody has to rally around him because you can’t put too much pressure on him. He is human, he can also fail. At the end of the day, everybody has to do well.”
