MS Dhoni may not get top BCCI central contract in restructured grade formula

CoA has come up with a four grade contract formula - A+, A, B, C.

Someone like Cheteshwar Pujara, who does not have a lucrative IPL contract, needs to be adequately compensated for his skills in Test cricket

The Committee of Administrators (CoA) had approved a hike in the pay of Indian cricketers after the meeting with Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni and Ravi Shastri on Nov 30.

Now it has been reported that CoA has come up with a four grade contract formula - A+, A, B, C after which players will get their much-awaited pay hike. According to new guidelines, players who are available for all the three formats will be included in the A grade.

This will mean that players like MS Dhoni, who has retired from Test cricket might miss out on the top grade in the renewed central contract. Players like R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, along with Dhoni has forced the CoA to come up with other options for their grades, as they are thinking of taking the ICC rankings into consideration.

The gradation short listing will be done by selectors, who will need to follow the set guidelines on deciding the grade qualification of a player. CoA might submit the new grade guidelines to the BCCI financial committee; which in turn will think over the proposal before sending their feedback to the CoA.

CoA chief Vinod Rai said, “It was a productive meeting. The team management was very forthcoming with their recommendations and their thoughts on various issues. This was a path-breaking initiative, we feel we've found a common ground and aligned our thoughts for the betterment of the game - be it the policies under which the player remuneration and FTP will be worked upon."

Team India will leave for England two weeks in advance; after Virat Kohli had slammed BCCI for cramped scheduling

Currently the Indian players earn less than 8 percent (7.8 percent) of BCCI revenues.

During the meeting, it was also discussed that the Indian team will leave two week early for the tour of England to get acclimatized to the condition, before the start of five Test series.

Virat Kohli had earlier slammed the BCCI for the cramped scheduling before the South Africa series.

"Had we got a month off ideally, we would have done a proper preparation in a camp sort of scenario but we have to sort of make do with what we have," Kohli had said before the start of the second Test against Sri Lanka in Nagpur.

"And everyone starts judging players when results come after Test matches. It should be a fair game, where we get to prepare the way we want to and then we are entitled to be criticised. So we thought this is an ample opportunity for us to challenge ourselves, put us in a situation (which they expect to encounter in South Africa)," Kohli added.
