Former Pakistan skipper and one of most renowned commentators in the world today, Ramiz Raja has urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to manage the country’s cricket much like the way BCCI is doing. Ramiz advised PCB to appoint an esteemed former Test cricketer like Rahul Dravid as coach with the Under-19 team.

“I think the PCB should also consider appointing a former Test player who is well reputed and respected with the national junior team just like India has done in the case of Rahul Dravid (India U-19 and A coach),” Raja was quoted by PTI as saying.

Raja feels that winning at the youth level is not as important as identifying some of the rare talents since the future superstars are made from this very platform.

“I don’t think winning is as important as recognizing individuals who are talented and then educating and grooming them. India will benefit from the presence of someone like Rahul Dravid who is a role model for youngsters,” Ramiz opined.

The 55-year-old also hailed Dravid as a true role model for youngsters. He pointed out that a budding cricketer can become a better person and sportsman by being in the guidance of someone like Rahul.

“Pakistan should also think on these lines because at the under-16 and 19 levels identifying individuals who can be good investments for the future is very important.” Concluded Ramiz.

The forthcoming Under-19 World Cup will start from January 13 in New Zealand. Pakistan U-19 team are slotted in Group D alongside Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Ireland while Prithvi Shaw led Indian U-19 side are in Group B along with Zimbabwe, Australia and Papua New Guinea U19.
