Indian team has always given high preference to top level fitness under the new captain Virat Kohli. They even made passing the fitness and endurance test mandatory to get into the national side. The current minimum score to pass the Yo-Yo test is 16.1.

But, as per Times of India reports, the minimum required score will be increased from 16.1 to 16.5 or even 17 by the Indian team management.

"Fitness has always been one of the key aspects associated with this team. There are discussions going on as to whether the benchmark could go a touch higher, say 16.5, to increase the fitness standards further. There has to be a progression in every aspect and fitness is no different. However, nothing has been finalised," the source of TOI said.

It was learned that 16.1 still remains the benchmark for cricketers who take the test before their national debut. Indian team member Dinesh Karthik had recently stated that Yo-Yo test should not be a big deal for the athletes. According to him, a score of 17.5 is easily achievable for most sportsmen with peak fitness.

After clearing the fitness test, he said that there was "nothing earth-shattering" about clearing the test. "It only starts getting tougher from 17.5. It is pretty achievable for most sportsmen," Dinesh had said.

High impact players like Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina were ruled out from the Indian team after failing to clear the test.

Even Washington Sundar couldn't make the cut to Indian side for the series against Australia because of failure in Yo-Yo test. He got picked immediately after clearing the test for the series against Sri Lanka recently.
