IPL 2018: Ricky Ponting puts a stop to rumors of him coaching any team in the league

Ricky Ponting played for KKR and MI and coached MI in the IPL.

Indian Premier League (IPL) will be entering its 11th year in 2018 and will see massive changes in the team combinations. The mega player auction will be taking place on January 27 and 28; with franchises crunching numbers and heads to buy the best available players for their teams.

The franchises are also looking for new additions to the support staff and coaching teams and it was speculated that former Australia and Mumbai Indians captain Ricky Ponting was in line to take up the head coach role of Delhi Daredevils.

However, it has been confirmed that Ricky Ponting will not be getting involved in the IPL 2018 in any form and will not be coaching any team either.

Ponting is currently commentating in the ongoing Big Bash League 2017-18. IPL governing council recently announced the player retention policy and it has increased the interest in the league with experts disclosing their picks for the players to be retained.

Ricky Ponting has been part of the IPL in form of a player for Kolkata Knight Riders in the inaugural edition in 2008 and then returned to the league in 2013 as a player for Mumbai Indians. He then coached the franchise from 2014-2016.

Delhi daredevils were hoping to rope Ponting in as the head coach after an encouraging show in IPL 2017.
