Heath Streak – the Head coach of the Zimbabwe side, on Thursday, said his team might have to accept playing the shorter format of the game after his Team’s massive an innings and 120 runs defeat inside two days against South Africa.

Heath also stressed the need to play more limited overs cricket to give themselves more of a realistic chance of competing at a higher level.

South Africa hosted Zimbabwe for one-off Boxing-Day Test at St George’s Park, where the tourists were bowled out for 68 and 121, and the hosts easily registered a massive win over Zimbabwe.

The coach went to further added that his side suffered from a lack of Test cricket that made it difficult for Zimbabwe to compete against a top Test side.

As per AFP, Streak said, “Maybe there is an argument for us to focus a lot more of our resources and time into short-format cricket to give us ourselves more of a realistic chance of competing at a higher level rather than hanging around near the bottom of the table in both the Test and one-day stuff.”

He also said that if Zimbabwe wants to play more Tests, then they might have to compete with the likes of newcomers Ireland and Afghanistan in the longest format of the game.

Streak concluded by saying, “I think if you get a bit of context to the Test rankings, with an incentive to get to the next level, with maybe a promotion-relegation type of thing, it’s worth looking at. Obviously, we would like to play against the top countries but maybe we could play them at home so we can set up the conditions to favour us.”
