The Boxing Day Test between South Africa and Zimbabwe has begun in Port Elizabeth, and the hosts declared the first innings at 309, while the tourists lost 4 wickets in just 30 runs.

The one-off four-day, day-night Test saw the returns of the South African star players likes of AB de Villiers and Dale Steyn back into the Test fold.

But now the hosts are facing some trouble, as captain Faf du Plessis was ruled out of the game due to a back ailment. Now their wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock suffered a hamstring tweak during his innings of 24, and was unable to take the field against Zimbabwe, and may not recover in time for first Test against India on 5th January.

Although, AB de Villiers played some brilliant strokes for his 53-runs, he looked uncomfortable throughout the innings. He was away from the game for twenty-three months and looked rusty, which raises the concerns of South Africa.

Now, the South African Team manager Dr. Mohammad Moosajee confirmed that de Kock had suffered a right hamstring strain and would go for scans on Wednesday.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, Moosajee told reporters, “If he wakes up feeling 100% and the scans are clear then he could still keep wicket on day two, but that is very unlikely.”

AB de Villiers has already cleared that he will not be keeping in any format of the game for South Africa due to his back problems and to prolong his career.

Now South Africa will have to find a new wicketkeeper to replace Quinton de Kock, with one of the biggest series of the summer coming to their backyard with three Tests against India.

This situation gives South Africa a selection headache, although they have two options with Titans' wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen and Knights' wicketkeeper-batsman Rudi Second for the role.
