It was by far the most epic moment during the opening day of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne when the swashbuckling Aussie opener David Warner got a reprieve on 99 owing to Tom Curran's front foot no-ball.

Amidst all the anxiousness in the post-lunch session, Warner mistimed a pull shot straight into the hands of Stuart Broad at mid-on. Fortunately for Warner and Australia, Curran had overstepped. After that harakiri in front of the jam-packed MCG crowd, it took Warner only one more ball to bring up his second straight Boxing Day ton.

His jubilation was pretty understandable, but nobody was more aware of how fortunate Warner was than the man himself.

After the end of first day’s play, the Aussie vice-captain addressed the media where he was asked: “what were your emotions when you got out on 99?”

“Crap the first time. Obviously I was disappointed with the way that I played that shot, I’ve played it many times over my career. But Uzzy [Khawaja] just before that over about being cautious of the horizontal cut shots and pull shots and making sure we were committed if we were going to play it,” Warner replied.

“And to play two of them in the same over, and obviously one potentially dismissing me, I was quite annoyed. Getting recalled was obviously fantastic, but it was a bit of rollercoaster of emotions between those two deliveries, that’s for sure,” he further elaborated.

Warner slammed 103 off 151 balls, including 13 fours and a six as Australia made 244-3 at Stumps on Day 1.
