Star Sports' six year broadcasting contract with BCCI ends with SL series

Sony have the official rights to broadcast India’s upcoming matches in South Africa.

Indian Cricket Team have won their last international game of the calendar year against Sri Lanka on Sunday under BCCI's association with their official broadcasters Star Sports, as BCCI’s six-year broadcast deal with Star Sports has come to an end - practically, if not technically.

Although, Star Sports still have the right to telecast few domestic games, including the final of the Ranji Trophy 2017-18 season and the ICC U-19 World Cup starting in January, now its  Sony have the official rights to broadcast India’s upcoming matches in South Africa.

The BCCI officials said that their plans for the next five years will be decided in next few years. It could be about 100 games - about 90 matches in the proposed new four-year 2019-23 FTP and about 10 games in the 2018-19 season after which the new FTP kicks in.

The Indian Cricket Board is also looking forward to all the major contenders for selling the rights of the season, and Star Sports wants to grab the deal after their successful merger with Disney recently.

After BCCI’s biggest Indian Premier League association ever with Star Sports, it will be now very interesting see the signing amount of the next deal of Board’s for the Team India’s next season.
