Ravi Shastri impressed with KL Rahul's recent performances

Shastri considers Rahul as most improved player of current time.

KL Rahul scored big in the SL T20I series

Indian opener KL Rahul had a good T20I series against Sri Lanka. He managed to get 154 runs in three matches. However, his performances couldn't get him a place in the 17 man ODI squad against South Africa.

Rahul has not played an ODI since August 31 and with Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane being the top contenders as the openers, things are not looking good for him.

However, India's head coach Ravi Shastri thinks Rahul is India's most improved player lately.

“A big headache for us (with the top order doing well). He (Rahul) is a class player, he has got time. He plays the quicks well. He has got all the shots. Like I have said time and again, if you look at the last 18 to 20 months, for me, he is one of the most improved players in world cricket. It was good to see the way he came back and struck the ball,” Shastri said while talking to Sanjay Manjrekar in the post-match interview.

25-year-old Rahul has played only 10 ODIs so far and has an unimpressive average of 35.43. He was the first Indian batsman to score a century on ODI debut; something he did against Zimbabwe.

India will be on a long tour of South Africa from January next year. India's skipper Virat Kohli will be back after a break of almost one month.
