After whitewashing Sri Lanka in the recently completed three-match T20I series, Team India have climbed two places to attain the second position in the latest released ICC Twenty-20 international rankings for team. Before the start of the T20I series against Sri Lanka, the 'Men in Blue' were slotted at No. 4 spot with 119 rating points, behind New Zealand, West Indies and Pakistan.
With 124 rating points, Pakistan continue to lead the table while India have gained two rating points to closing in on the heels of their arch-rivals.
Both New Zealand and West Indies boast of 120 rating points. However, on account of the superior decimal points the Kiwis currently occupy the third spot. England are slotted at No. 5 with 119 rating points while South Africa (112) and Australia (111) are the only other teams to aggregate the tally of more than 100 rating points.
Sri Lanka have lost three rating points after their recent hammering against India are only 2 rating points ahead of the ninth-ranked Afghanistan. Moreover, Bangladesh continue to remain at the tenth position beside their recent improvement in other two formats of the game.
On the other hand, India’s opening batsman Rohit Sharma has jumped up two places to attain the fifth position in the latest released ICC ODI rankings for batsmen. The elegant right-hander finished the recently concluded three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka as the leading getter, with the Men in Blue securing it by 2-1.
Rohit’s 217 runs in 3 innings, including a record extending double ton in Mohali played a significant role in India’s comeback after facing a demoralizing ODI series opener loss in Dharamsala. After the monumental third double ton during the third ODI in Mohali, Rohit attained a career-high rankings-point tally of 825 – his highest in 174 ODIs thus far. However, he finished the series with 816 rating points.
Rohit’s utmost ODI batting ranking though has been third, which he grabbed in February 2016 after a stellar series Down Under. Besides Rohit, India skipper Virat Kohli stays at the pinnacle of ICC ODI batting rankings with a staggering 876 rating points while Proteas batting maverick AB de Villiers and Australia’s opening batsman David Warner are placed at number 2 and 3 position with 872 and 865 points respectively.
