Australian back-up fast bowler Jackson Bird has said that he is ready to play in the 4th Test at Melbourne, if Mitchell Starc’s injured foot doesn’t heal in time.

“I hope for Mitch’s sake his heel’s not too serious and he does get up,” he told a news conference Saturday. “But it’d be unbelievable to play an Ashes Test on Boxing Day. Either way, I’ll be ready.

Starc with 19 wickets, Hazlewood with 15 wickets and Pat Cummins with 11 wickets has rattled the English batsmen during this series. Australia are already 3-0 up in the five match Test series, with England team looking down in dumps, with two Tests to go.

Bird said, “I’m realistic about where I sit and the fast bowlers ahead of me. You can only have 11 players in the team and we’ve got such good fast bowlers at the moment.

The 4th Test at Melbourne will be played on the Boxing Day, 26th December, 2017.
