West Indian swashbuckling opener Chris Gayle gives another shock to the side after their defeat in the One Day series opener, as the aggressive batsman might not available for the second ODI with illness.

The 38-year-old failed to establish his predominancy against New Zealand, as the star batsman struck just 22 –runs for Windies, and then did not take the field at Cobham Oval in Whangarei after falling ill.

Eventually, the hosts New Zealand side chased down 248 and took a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series by winning first ODI by five wickets against Windies.

The West Indies head coach - Stuart Law confirmed the news but did not shed any light on Gayle's condition. He told reporters in Whangarei, “He’s ill. He’s going to seek further medical advice once we arrive in Christchurch. At this point in time, I can’t give you any further details of what’s going on.”

Law concluded by saying, “I’m not a doctor. I can’t give you any more, so I apologise. We should get a full appraisal tomorrow [Thursday].”

The second ODI of the series is slated to play at Hagley Oval on 23 December.
