During the recently concluded three-match ODI series between India and Sri Lanka, India’s opening batsman Rohit Sharma led the home side in the absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli. Rohit began his captaincy stint with a 2-1 series win and subsequently took to micro-blogging site Twitter to recall his very first outing as India skipper.

"A day that I will remember for the rest of my life. Walking out with the team sheet for the 1st time was a feeling of its own which can never be measured or compared with anything. Proud to be playing with the guys who have such great skill set & work ethic. Cannot be more happier,” Rohit posted a picture on his official Twitter page and wrote in the caption.

Sharma’s debut match as captain didn’t pan out the way he would have liked to as the Indian batting collapsed like a pack of cards against Sri Lanka in Dharamsala. The Men in Blue were bundled out for 112 after being put into bat first by the visiting skipper Thisara Perera. Eventually, the hosts lost the ODI opener by 7 wickets.

In the second ODI in Mohali though, Rohit took the cricketing world by storm as he recorded his historic third ODI double ton to guide India to a series-levelling 141-run victory. The Mumbaikar started his innings patiently but soon after notching up his 16th ODI ton he become a different beast altogether. During his record-shattering 208* off 153 balls, the Hitman smashed 12 gigantic sixes in addition to 13 fours. However, the highlight of Rohit's fire show was in the 44th over when he pummelled Lankan pacer Suranga Lakmal for four consecutive sixes in an over.

While Rohit stole the show in the second ODI in Mohali, Shikhar Dhawan (100* off 85) and rookie Shreyas Iyer (65 off 63) played a significant role to secure the series-deciding ODI in Visakhapatnam.

India will now play Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series, commencing on December 20 (Wednesday) at the Barabati Stadium, Cuttack.
