India's stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma has been praised by his batting partner Shikhar Dhawan. He called Rohit a chilled out skipper. “I have known Rohit for a long time and I know what’s his character is like. He is a chilled-out captain. He tells us to keep the basics strong,” said Dhawan on Saturday.

The opener further lauded Rohit's innings in Mohali and said he led from the front. “We all are mature players and we know our job. We just have to give our best and hats off to him for the way he performed in the last game. He led from the front.”

Dhawan himself helped India to give a platform for a high score with Rohit Sharma. The Delhi lad scored 68 runs in the second ODI.

Shikhar talked about the third ODI venue and said he loved Vizag. “I love coming to Vizag. It’s a very beautiful and clean city. Of course, I did very well in the Deodhar Trophy. After that it was a drastic change in my international career. As it says, Vizag is the city of destiny … it has been very good for me and I always enjoy coming over here,” he said.

“I have been performing consistently for the past few months. I’m very happy about the way I have been performing. Of course, you keep on growing and you never stop learning. I kept on learning things. Try to implement those things in the match.”

We know what kind of batting the opener can do once he is in a fine-tuning. Dhawan has went against lethal bowling line-ups too in the past. Talking about his batting he said, “Once I am in, I can demolish any side because that is my strength. And Even Rohit, once he gets settled, he scores bigger."

“For them (Sri Lanka) it is the same thing, they are going to learn and come with a better mindset. We are going to prepare ourselves more better. We will be more aware of it. Because we already know that they are going to come with strong plans for us.”

India will be touring South Africa next year and their ability to counter seaming conditions has been under the scanner. Dhawan said India’s capitulation in Kolkata (first innings of the first Test) and Dharamsala (first ODI) were only part of a learning curve.

“We have learnt a lot of things when we played in Kolkata and this one, Dharamsala. And see, it was seaming and it was bit of a damp wicket. It is not that it was a dry wicket and seaming, there is a different thing. But still, we went with positive intent and gave our best. Of course, it didn’t go our way. We all learn from it. It is good that sometimes that we fall then you learn a lot of things from it,” he said.
