IPL is the most searched sporting event on Google

ICC Champions Trophy 2017 and Women’s Cricket World Cup also made it to the list.

Believe it or not, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has topped the list of most searched sporting event in 2017, according to Google Trends. The tenth edition of the IPL, which was played between April 5 to May 21, heads the list of sporting events that include Wimbledon, WWE, US Open, FIFA U-17 World Cup among others.

The ICC Champions Trophy 2017, where India reached the summit but lost to arch-rivals Pakistan in the final, was also among the most searched items on Google. To everyone’s surprise, ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup also made it to the list of top 10.

Here are the year’s top trending sporting news stories in the search:

  5. Pro Kabaddi

Meanwhile, India skipper Virat Kohli has emerged out as the most searched cricketer on Google in Pakistan. According to Google Trends, Kohli was searched more than the current lot of cricketers in Pakistan cricket team.

According to the search results, from December 18, 2016 to December 9, 2017 Pakistani folks have searched Virat Kohli more than their captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, pacer Mohammad Amir and batsman Ahmed Shehzad.
