Australia are tightening its grip on the Perth Test at WACA ground against England and inching towards a series win.

Smith registered his 22nd Test ton in his 108th innings, beating Indian maestro Sachin Tendulkar behind. Tendulkar had reached the milestone in his 114th innings. The other two players who reached the milestone in fewer innings than Smith are Don Bradman (58) and Sunil Gavaskar (101).

After England put up a good total of 403 on board, Australia replied in kind, with Captain Steve Smith scoring a brilliant ton. Craig Overton removed both the openers for 55 runs on board, but Khawaja and Smith steadied the ship.

Steve Smith scored his 14th ton as Australian skipper, 12th in Australia and 7th against rivals England. The ton was his 5th Test ton in 2017.

He also completed 1000 runs in 2017 in the Test matches, becoming the only player other than former opener Matthew Hayden to do so for four consecutive years. Steve Smith had also scored a century (141) in the first Test at Gabba to turn the tide in Australia’s favor.
