Bangladesh star opener Tamim Iqbal, on Thursday, apologized for using inappropriate language while criticizing the pitches at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

Tamim had described the Mirpur pitch as ‘horrible’ – a term which according to BCB is a breach of the code of conduct, after a Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match against Rangpur Riders here on December 2.

Later, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had issued a show cause letter against the Comilla Victorians skipper Tamim Iqbal, asking him to appear at a disciplinary committee hearing to explain his statement regarding the Mirpur track.

On 14 December, Tamim addends the hearing at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, and admitted he made mistake and ‘could have used better words’ in front of the BCB disciplinary committee.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, Tamim told reporters, “I could have used better words. They raised their concern over my way of expression and I truly agree with them. Perhaps I could have used another word to describe it but probably could not place it well.”

The 28-year-old left-hander further added, “They have told me that being a national player, BCB is our guardian and all these things - venue, wicket, and outfield are our assets and I will be careful in the future. I hope in the coming years my actions will be better.”

Although, BCB officials did not disclose what actions had been taken against Tamim in the letter that they have submitted to the BCB as their observation in the hearing. BCB director Mahbub Anam told reporters, “We cannot disclose our decision regarding the issue. We have spoken with him and told him about our code of conduct. He had understood that he had made a mistake.”
