Gautam Gambhir’s plea in the Delhi high court against the use of his name in a local eatery and beverage joint was dismissed recently. DAP and co. owned local bar and restaurant was accused by Gambhir for using his name to attract customers.

But the proprietor of the company argued that even his name is Gautam Gambhir and he has every right to use his name for his business. Justice S. P. Garg sided with the owner of the business and dismissed the former India opener’s plea.

Gambhir is currently preparing for the Ranji Trophy semi-final against Bengal at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. He was the reason for Delhi defeating Madhya Pradesh in the quarter finals, as he scored 95 in the chase of 217 runs.

Gautam Gambhir had mentioned in his plea that the use of his name appeared to be “deceivingly associated or owned” by him and would, therefore, cause “irreparable loss and undue hardship” to him. DAP and co claimed that they used the tagline “Gautam Gambhir” as it is the name of the owner of the business, who also owns two pubs, Ghungroo and Hawalat, in Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh area.

This verdict severely affects Gautam Gambhir, the cricketer, as he cannot stop the business from using the name for popularity and will have to put disclaimers to let the fans and people know that he is not associated with the brand at all.
