New Zealand Cricket (NZC), on Thursday, confirmed that the Zimbabwe-born all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme would miss the upcoming One-Day International series against the West Indies, which is scheduled to start from 20 December at the Cobham Oval in Whangarei.

The New Zealand Cricket Board said Colin de Grandhomme will not play in the ODI series due to the sudden death of his father LL de Grandhomme, who had played first-class cricket for Zimbabwe, died at the age of 61. The NZC also said that they have no knowledge about his return or when he would return.

Grandhomme, who will be replaced by Doug Bracewell in the Black Caps ODI squad for the Windies ODI series, traveled to Harare to be with his family.

The Zimbabwe-born all-rounder moved to New Zealand in 2006 and made his debut in 2012.

According to AFP, New Zealand selector, Gavin Larsen confirmed, “This is obviously extremely sad news for Colin and his family and we’re all thinking of them at the moment. Right now, the most important thing is that Colin is with his family.”

The hosts will play the West Indies side in the three ODIs and the same number of T20 Internationals.
