India skipper Virat Kohli started a new inning in life as he tied the knot with his long time girlfriend Anushka Sharma in a hush-hush ceremony in Tuscany on Monday (December 11).

Kohli, who has been on a record-breaking spree this year, smashed yet another Sachin Tendulkar’s record albeit outside the ground on this occasion. On Monday (December 11) at 8:51 PM IST, the 29-year-old made the big announcement on micro-blogging website Twitter as he confirmed his marriage with the Bollywood diva Anushka Sharma.

"Today we have promised each other to be bound in love forever. We are truly blessed to share the news with you. This beautiful day will be made more special with the love and support of our family of fans & well-wishers. Thank you for being such an important part of our journey," Kohli wrote on his official Twitter page to caption a picture from the wedding ceremony.

The post took the internet by storm as Kohli’s 21.2 million followers sent him their heartfelt wishes. And they continue to pour in. Till the time of writing the article (4:30 PM IST, December 12), the tweet has fetched 77,648 retweets in addition to 405,238 likes – which is a record for a cricketer.

According to the available data in Twitter, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar's retirement tweet in November 2013 has been retweeted 16,674 times apart from getting 12,933 likes. Taking the Twitter statistics into consideration, Kohli has now surpassed his idol by a long margin.

"I am really touched with #ThankYouSachin messages. Your support all these years have inspired me to give my best," Tendulkar  had written on November 13, 2013.

When it comes to on-field performances, Kohli has been in the form of his life as he recently surpassed Australian batting legend Ricky Ponting’s tally of 30 ODI hundreds. In the list of highest century maker, Kohli (32) now finds himself in the number 2 position only behind his idol Sachin Tendulkar, who is comfortably placed at the pinnacle with 49 tons.

The Indian captain will head off to South Africa with his Indian teammates on December 27. Virat Kohli's troops are scheduled to play three Tests, six ODIs and three T20Is against the Proteas, with the series opener starting with Cape Town Test on January 5, 2018.
