MS Dhoni is back in yellow and Chennai Super Kings fans now have a reason to wait for the IPL 2018. According to the new player retention policy, a franchise can retain up to five players using a combination of Player Retention (Pre-Player Auction) and Right to Match (RTM).

The Governing Council met in New Delhi on Wednesday along with the Committee of Administrators (CoA) to decide the player retention policy, salary cap, player regulations and other related issues, especially for the uncapped players, with ten seasons up for the cash-rich league. 

It's confirmed that the former Indian captain will be among the players who CSK will retain as per the player retention rules. More good news for the fans is that he will be back as captain of the team.

As per reports of Sportskeeda.com, CSK team director George John, said: "We are very happy about it. But we haven't applied our mind to it right now but we are extremely happy about it."

"(On MS Dhoni coming back to CSK as captain) Obvious, yes. It is a very obvious choice but we have not applied our mind beyond that."

MS Dhoni left the captaincy of Indian team from all formats in January 2017. However, fans were eager to watch him leading his side Rising Pune Supergiants in IPL.

But it didn't happen. The franchise owners removed him as captain and handed over the responsibility to Australian skipper Steve Smith.

George also confirmed that they can only retain players who played for them in 2015. When asked about whether this was a disadvantage, as they were missing out on a player like Mohit Sharma who was with CSK, he said he was happy with the rules.

"We are happy with this. Thirteen players are there (from the 2015 squad), so we are fine with it."
