India will tour South Africa for a 3 Tests, 6 ODIs and 3 T20I series early next year. Indian squad will leave for South Africa on December 26 or 27 and will be playing a two day practice match at Boland on December 30-31.

Indian captain Virat Kohli had bashed BCCI for their cramped scheduling which included 3 back to back series in two months, leaving them no time to prepare for the important overseas tour of South Africa. India will play the last T20I against Sri Lanka on December 24th and then leave for South Africa after two days.

BCCI selectors have opted to go for five genuine fast bowlers in Mohd Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah along with two spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. They will be supported by Hardik Pandya as the lone all-rounder in the squad.

Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and Wriddhiman Saha select themselves. Murali Vijay, KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan are also part of the squad as openers. Parthiv Patel will act as a reserve keeper.

India will play the first Test at Newlands, Cape Town from Jan 5, second Test at Centurion from Jan 13 and third and final Test at Johannesburg from Jan 24.

BCCI selection committee also picked the team for the 3-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. Virat Kohli has been rested and Rohit Sharma will lead the new look side. The squad has some fresh faces like Washington Sundar, Deepak Hooda & Basil Thampi, which is a welcome move as it will allow some rest to the players who will be touring South Africa.
