Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been shortlisted for India’s T20I tour of Ireland in June 2026, The Indian Express reported.
If selected, Sooryavanshi could become the youngest player ever to represent India in international cricket, breaking the record currently held by Shafali Verma (15 years, 7 months, and 27 days). Among men, he would surpass the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who debuted at the age of 16 years and 205 days.
India’s tour of Ireland comprises two T20Is, scheduled for June 26 and June 28 in Belfast. Selectors are likely to pick a second-string side for this series to provide exposure to emerging talent following the ongoing IPL season, ahead of a senior-heavy tour of England starting July 1.
According to the report, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee has added Sooryavanshi to a larger group of names being tracked for the Ireland tour.
“He is in contention for the Ireland tour, and the selectors have shortlisted his name along with those of many other players,” a source in the know was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
Sooryavanshi’s contention follows a dominant IPL 2026 season, where he has scored 200 runs in five innings so far at a strike rate of 263.15 with two half-centuries.
The report also suggests that Sooryavanshi might also be picked for the Zimbabwe tour later this year if he continues his impressive run-scoring spree.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has recorded several crucial innings for RR this season, including 78 off 26 balls against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, 52 off 17 against Chennai Super Kings, and 39 off 14 against Mumbai Indians. The teenage prodigy has dominated leading bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Josh Hazlewood to strengthen his claims for the national selection.
Earlier this year, Sooryavanshi also delivered a Player-of-the-Tournament performance to help India clinch their record-extending sixth U19 World Cup title.
