Kusal Perera ‘s lone ranging effort was not enough to help his team stretch over the line in Indore in the second T20I against India. Sri Lanka lost the match by 88 runs and the series in the process as their losing streak seem to go on.

Post the match, the Sri Lankan batsman was quick to highlight Sri Lanka’s problems against the Indian spin dup of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav. "They are bowling really well and generally the wrist-spinners with their variations are hard to pick. But this wicket offered very little for the bowlers and was excellent for batting and we could have done better," Kusal Perera said after the match.

"We tried to capitalize with fours and sixes. We didn't want too many dot balls. We tried to hit out and ended up losing too many wickets," Perera added.

It was Chahal who made the breakthrough by dismissing former captain Upul Tharanga with a fine return catch, and in the next over, Kuldeep took three wickets to give India complete control in the game.

"Kuldeep took three wickets in an over. The momentum went away from us at that moment and we never recovered," Perera noted.

Perera said that they are trying to get over the defeat and are focusing on keeping the basics right ahead of the third T20 international in Mumbai.  "We have to back our strengths. We have good batsmen, but Rohit and KL Rahul were brilliant with that partnership. We tried to back ourselves and play to our best when batting, but it didn't go our way. "Winning and losing are part of the game. We try to learn what we did wrong. As a team we are trying to improve. We have to think of our batting and how we can do things better” Perera concluded.
