India will clash with Sri Lanka in a T20I series starting from 20th December. The men in blue have included few new faces in their squad for the shortest format. India had a great success in their recently concluded ODI series under stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma.

Kerala pacer Basil Thampi is one of the new names that are poised for debut in the Indian team during the T20I series. The speedster was praised by Indian batsman Dinesh Karthik. Karthik said that the young pacer, whose four-wicket haul and 60 runs helped Kerala secure a historic Ranji Trophy quarterfinal berth, has the ‘ammunition’ to achieve success in T20 Internationals.

While speaking with PTI on the eve of the first T20I Karthik said, "He’s a very, very good talent. He’s sharp, he bowls quick and is somebody who can execute yorkers very consistently, and that’s probably one of his biggest strengths. He has a good slower ball as well. He has all the ammunition required to play the T20 format and I’m sure he will do really well.”

“He will get the opportunity to play for Team India in a year or so. He has the talent, obviously, but he also has a lot of heart, pace and the skill. He’s always willing to learn.”

The 24-years old looked promising in IPL 2017 with the Gujarat Lions. He claimed 11 wickets in 12 matches, putting him in the limelight. His First-Class record suggests a bowling average of 38.20 with a tally of 29 wickets in 17 games might not sound that impressive.
