The cricketing world was shocked when Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft admitted to being involved in the ball tampering scandal in the South Africa Test match. A further revelation of David Warner being the instigator of the whole plan led to the three to being banned by Cricket Australia for varied periods of time.

The bans also meant that Steve Smith and David Warner missed the IPL 2018 as well. Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad had named the two players as their captains respectively and had to find new players as their replacements.

A big blow was to David Warner, who had led SRH to IPL trophy in 2016 and SRH fans were emotionally attached to the demolishing opener. Although Kane Williamson stepped up to the plate both as a player and as captain and took the team to finals, SRH and its fans missed David Warner as the team lost to CSK in the finals.

SRH mentor VVS Laxman shared an emotional anecdote about David Warner on the web show ‘Breakfast with Champions’.

He revealed that his kids Sarvajit and Achintya were heartbroken to know that David Warner won’t be playing for SRH in IPL 2018. Laxman said that his kids loved Warner and followed SRH religiously and knew his importance for the team. Knowing that he won’t be playing for the team, had them in tears, as they saw the headlines in newspapers.

Laxman also said that the kids were disappointed when SRH lost to CSK in the finals.
