Indian all-rounder Vijay Shankar, who bats right-handed and bowls right-arm medium pace, made his name for himself for his brilliant ability to pick the length, the range of shots, power and stunning bowling at the death overs playing for Delhi Daredevils in the IPL 2018.

The tall all-rounder recently revealed to The Hindu the secret of his success in the IPL 2018, saying training with RobotArm — a flexible, dynamic stick that can hold and ball played a key role in his success.

Shankar said, “The person releasing the ball at the batsman with this stick can generate speeds close to 145kmph. And you can ask him to land the ball in specific areas and try to execute your shots from there.”

The 27-year-old further went on to rate the toughest ball to cope with in T20 cricket is one just back-of-a-length and rising about waist high, and the all-rounder used to go deeper into the crease and generate power with his bat-speed, shoulders and wrists to hit the delivery.

In the IPL 2018, Shankar’s 31-ball 54* including five sixes against Chennai Super Kings in Pune was the best effort that he has shown in the T20 event and Vijay added, “Bravo is a challenging bowler and the knock gave me a lot of satisfaction.”

The Tamil Nadu all-rounder also said that DD coach Ricky Ponting’s advice really helped him to beat the demon of self-doubt following his poor outing in the 2018 Nidahas Trophy T20 series in Sri Lanka.

Shankar amassed 212 runs at an amazing strike rate of 143.24 and average of 53.00 in 13 matches for Daredevils in the recently concluded IPL 2018.
