Indian Premier League (IPL) is world’s richest and most lucrative T20 cricket league with officials and coaches from all over the world eager and ready to participate in the tournament as part of teams.

The monetary part of being a part of the coaching staff of an IPL team is so lucrative, that it gives more returns than coaching a national team. A look at the salaries of the coaches of the IPL teams this year makes one wonder about it and raises the question.

A big example is that of the salary drawn by Ashish Nehra for his services to Royal Challengers Bangalore this IPL. Sources said that Nehra is not only the second most expensive coach with an annual package of Rs 4 crore in the IPL set-up, but he is also making more than the support staff of the Indian team.

It is the same amount that was demanded by Zaheer Khan for his services as bowling coach of the Indian cricket team for 100 days, but was turned down by the BCCI, as they deemed the price to be too expensive.

Indian coach Ravi Shastri is still the highest paid cricket coach in the world with an annual package of INR 7 crore, while the support staff makes approximately INR 2 crore per annum.

New Zealand's former captain and RCB's head coach Daniel Vettori is the highest paid coach in the 2018 IPL season, while Delhi Daredevils' Ricky Ponting made around Rs 3.7 crore for this year's services.  Gary Kirsten made INR 1.5 crore for his role as batting consultant for RCB; a similar amount paid to Lasith Malinga for his bowling mentor for Mumbai Indians.

Stephen Fleming, IPL 2018 winning team CSK’s coach made 3.7 crore Rs, while Kings XI Punjab's Virender Sehwag, whose salary is pegged around Rs 3 crore. Rajasthan Royals shelled around Rs 2.7 cr for Shane Warne. Jacques Kallis was paid Rs 2.5 cr by Shah Rukh Khan co-owned KKR. MI coach Mahela Jayawardene made Rs 2.25 crore, while IPL 2018 finalists SRH’s coach Tom Moody and team mentor VVS Laxman made Rs 2 crore each.
