Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) co-owner Preity Zinta regrets not winning the bid for MS Dhoni during the first ever IPL auction in 2008. Preity revealed she wasn't a big fan of Dhoni before the IPL commenced, but became one after watching him lead CSK in last 10 years.

Talking to a news channel, Zinta uttered her desire to have Dhoni in KXIP side followed by a chuckle. She knows it is nearly impossible to part the former India skipper with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) now.

"There is just one player who I have always wanted in my team but that won't ever happen... and that is MS Dhoni. When the IPL started I wasn't a Dhoni fan but from what I've seen of him in the last 10 years I've started to admire him," Preity said.

Dhoni had a poor IPL in 2017 and the critics said it is over for the 36-year-old in the shorter format. He received a lot of criticism with people suspecting his hitting abilities. But he came back stronger to answer everyone with the bat.

Zinta feels it is unfair to challenge someone who has achieved a lot in his stint. "Last year everybody started saying Dhoni should stop playing but look at him this year. He is unbelievable and I think it's unfair at every step to challenge a player once he reaches a certain stature. He doesn't need to tell people who he is, he is Dhoni.

"I really admire him because he was a really terrific captain for India. The country won so much under him. Even when you see him on the ground he remains absolutely calm and collected. He remains gracious in defeat as well. When he wins he's obviously amazing," Preity stated.

Dhoni led CSK to their third IPL victory on Sunday against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The men in yellow crushed Hyderabad by 8 wickets after Shane Watson scored a record unbeaten 117* to win the match.
