IPL 2018: Women’s T20 Challenge- Ellyse Perry takes Supernovas to an exciting 3 wickets win over Trailblazers

In a first ever for women’s T20 cricket, the Indian Premier League took a step towards popularizing the Women’s cricket in an effort to build consensus for an IPL like tournament for women cricketers. IPL organized an exhibition T20 game featuring the crème of women cricketing world at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The two teams were dubbed as IPL Trailblazers led by Smriti Mandhana and IPL Supernovas, led by Harmanpreet Kaur. The Trailblazers had internationals like Alyssa Healy, Suzie Bates, and Lea Tahuhu amongst others. The Supernovas were made of some international stars like Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt, and Danielle Wyatt amongst others.

The Supernovas won the toss and elected to field first. Healy (7) and Mandhana (14) opened for Trailblazers and added 17 runs for the first wicket. Suzie Bates top scored for her team with 32 from 37 balls, while Deepti Sharma (21) and Jemimah Rodrigues (25) were the other major contributors to Trailblazers’ final total of 129/6 in 20 overs.

Megan Schutt (2/18) and Ellyse Perry (2/20) were the best bowlers for Supernovas, while Anuja Patil and Rajeshwari Gayakwad also picked a wicket each.

In the chase, Mithali Raj (22) and Danielle Wyatt (24 off 20 balls) added 47 runs in first six overs to give a flying start to the Supernovas. Meg Lanning (16), Harmanpreet (21) and Devine (19) were the other major contributors to the Supernovas.

In the end, it came down to the last over, as Ellyse Perry took Supernnovas to a 3 wickets win over the Trailblazers int he Women's T20 challenge.

The match was a great exhibition of what women cricketers can do when given a chance and added to the glitz and glamour of Women T20 cricket.
