Shreyas Iyer was an elated captain as Delhi Daredevils stunned Chennai Super Kings with a comprehensive 34-run victory at Feroz Shah Kotla on Friday (May 18).

After being put into bat, DD put on 162/5 on the board thanks to Harshal Patel’s cameo (36 runs off 16 balls) at the fag end of the innings. While defending the total, Daredevils’ entire bowling unit stepped up to the plate to restrict the mighty CSK batting line-up at 128/6 in 20 overs.

While Trent Boult and Amit Mishra claimed two wickets each by conceding 20 runs in their quota of 4 overs, Harshal Patel and Sandeep Lamichhane scalped wicket apiece.

Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Iyer said: "We were craving for this victory, and coming against one of the best teams is satisfying. All departments did well and lived up to the expectations."

The DD skipper was in all praise for Harshal, who was adjudged Man of the Match for his awe-inspiring all-round show.

"It wasn't easy to bat on this wicket, and Harshal coming at number 7 in that last over was amazing. That performance was not expected and that just goes to show what he is here for. That last over played a major role in getting us to 162," Iyer remarked.

Delhi were tottering at 97 for 5 in 14.4 overs before Harshal shared an unbeaten 65-run stand for the fifth wicket with Vijay Shankar to take them to a defendable total. The 27-year-old hit 1 four and 4 sixes in his herculean knock.

Iyer concluded by saying that this is the sort of performance they were looking for from the beginning of the season.

"We were never lacking in preparation from the beginning of the tournament, it's just that we were not able to execute what we had planned in the nets and all the three departments weren't clicking together, which happened today and in all the games that we won," Shreyas Iyer signed-off.

Delhi will take on Mumbai Indians in their remaining league match at the Feroz Shah Kotla on Sunday (May 20).
